It’s About Relationship Not Religion

What I am writing is derived from the Mosaic Bible and Bible scripture but I have also included my perspective and insight. Reading Psalm 121 and Mark 8:31-38.  The reading in my Mosaic Bible talks about relationships and how they are important. We are created to be relational. Even though our society wants to make you think you have to do it all on your own, you can’t. Dependence on God and others is a gift in weak moments of our own. We can depend on God and trust Him because His relationship toward us is important to Him. If we trust Him we will be guided by Him. Relationship with Jesus is important now because it will affect our eternal life later. Jesus wants us to side with Him and give up this earthly life to have eternal life with Him. If we are ashamed of Him on earth He will be the same toward us in heaven in the presence of His Father and the holy angels. We should depend on Jesus now and commune with Him, be joyful in this relationship with Him.When we see Him in eternity our joy will be complete. Read Romans 4:1-25. We depend on Jesus for being our sacrifice for our sins. Without Jesus there is no eternal life. No hope for the ones who do not have faith in Jesus and trust Him for their salvation.

Trail to the Tree-  Spirit Lighting

Scripture reading is about Jesus getting baptized by John to carry out the will of God and John saw the Spirit descending on Jesus and heard a voice from heaven say, ” This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

Ann says: Today bring Father great joy by living the fruits of the Spirit. Think on the Spirit descending on the Son and let Him light today upon you.

Because of Jesus’ relationship with God the Father He wanted to do God’s will. This brought great joy to God. When we honor our relationship with Jesus and follow Him, we are doing God’s will also. God is filled with great joy over us too. We also are filled with joy because the Holy Spirit inside of us causes us to do God’s will. This brings us great joy.

Living The Fairytale

Last December my son played a song for me in the car that I liked and I asked him the name and he said Fairy tale theme. It struck a chord in me because I had been watching the show Once Upon A Time. This show is saturated with spiritual insight. What God showed me was that He sees everything. He sees us, the moon the stars, the universe! He is the real reality, the ultimate reality. We are in a sense in His fairy tale, after all the word history is broken into His Story. We have a part in His Story. I found an article written by the author of Lord of The Rings, Tolkien, about Fairy tales. He talked about fairy tales being the consolation of happy endings. The word he used to describe this was eucatastrophe . The eucatastrophic tale is the true form of fairy tale and it’s highest function. Tolkien said the consolation of fairy tales, the joy of the happy ending is there is no true ending to any fairy tale. This joy which is one of the things which fairy tales can produce is not “escapist” nor “fugitive”.  It is a sudden and miraculous grace never to be counted on to recur. This word of his made me remember a word Ann Voskamp uses and it’s Eucharisteo which means grace recognized, give thanks and joy.  So, eucatastrophe gives way to the experience of eucharisteo.

What I want to conclude is when we choose God and He is in control of our lives we can have the consolation of a happy ending that never ends and while we are still here on earth we get to experience eucharisteo. This is not a way to escape but it’s realizing what is the truth. The truth of the Gospel, that Jesus, our savior came to save us. Like Emma is the savior in Once Upon a Time. She is suppose to give them their happy endings. Jesus gives us the happy ending here on earth and Jesus gives us the joy of knowing there is no end to this unfathomable JOY!

My Wonder Wall Is Jesus

Today I was drawn to a song called Wonderwall by Oasis

It has turned out to be really awesome! I looked up the meaning of the song and found this. According to Noel Gallagher, the song describes “an imaginary friend who’s gonna come and save you from yourself “. And since the only ‘you’ in the song goes on to become the ‘Wonderwall‘, it must refer to something/someone who will always be there for you, and well, save you.

This can only mean Jesus for me, so I felt like Jesus is communicating this to me through the song which is awesome!

The next thing that happened was I read my Advent devotional from The Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamp and it kinda ties in with the song and I wanted to share this and record my thoughts.

Ann wrote, The King from the beginning, back when we were young and the world was Edenic and the wonderland was us. She goes on to say,  joy beyond the walls of the world. It’s Jesus.

Jesus is my wonderwall. He is the joy that is my wall, to hold me in peace. He is joy beyond the walls of the world but He is also my wonderwall that saves me. His presence in my mind and heart save me from darkness and despair. The darkness that can fill my mind and heart to make me feel afraid and out of sorts. Jesus, just the thought of Him steers me back into the Light and into peace and love. He gives me strength and courage. In the song You Make Me Brave it says: No fear can hinder now the promises You have made. No fear can hinder now the love that made a way!

This video and song gave me goose bumps today!

Ann also said, “The King beyond this world has entered this world and the wonderland in Him we always hoped for is here and now and true. The King of the first and still coming second Advent, the King coming again to rule the earth and make all the sad things untrue. The wonderland is unfolding now, Kingdom coming, because His Word doesn’t return to Him void. Isaiah 55:11-12 . So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

I love how she put it, the wonderland is true and it’s here, now. And when Jesus comes again He will make all the bad headlines untrue, all the death will be but a myth!

I read somewhere yesterday that Jesus invites us into His Story [ History].  To be in His Story we have to surrender our lives to Him. To live in the safe parameters of His Wonderwall and dwell in Wonderland, we have to follow Him. We have to give up our ways and go God’s way.  My dad wrote this in a Bible he gave me when I was twenty: It truly can be a “Wonderful Life”.

Return To God

first-loveThe scripture Revelations 2:1-5 is talking to the churches. This church is doing right but they don’t love God and others like they did in the beginning. They are being called to return to their love and what they did in the beginning of their belief.

Many times in these five and half years since I was saved I have fallen away just like the church in Revelations. When I prayed about what to do, God always directed me: Go back to what you did when you first encountered Jesus. Remember how elated you were and how you hungered for My Word. You couldn’t get enough of singing praise and thanking Jesus. You couldn’t believe Jesus died for you and couldn’t stop thanking Him.

If you find yourself lost and have veered off the path just go back to what you were doing when it first started happening. God will take it where you left off. Time might have been lost but God makes up for it. Don’t feel guilty, trust that it’s happening the way it’s suppose to. God is always with us and He understands our attention span is small. He loves us so much that He doesn’t leave us alone. He will pursue us again and again until we see that life with Him is peace, love, joy, security. I never want to go away from Him again.

Rejoice And Be At Peace

download (1)Scripture for today is Proverbs 14:30 and it’s talking about peace leads to health and jealousy is a cancer.

Learn to be content with the way things are and with what you have. This makes me think of my father-in-law the last months that he lived. He passed of two kinds of cancer but during his last months here he said to my husband that he didn’t need or want anything. He said, ” Isn’t that a good place to be? Not wanting or needing anything.” I have thought a lot about that statement. He also said when he looked at a flower that the flower was love. When we would see him he always asked how we were and never said anything about himself. He also told us God and Jesus were there and he was waiting. Jesus told him his ticket was punched and he just had to wait. Here is an epitaph I wrote for him.

Leroy is my name.
Trucking was my passion.
I trucked to be free.
Free to be me.
All I ever wanted was to be me.
Why are people so afraid of being who they are?
People would have you believe that I was troubled and hard hearted.
My family could tell you different.
I came to a truck stop in my life.
Everything put on hold.
This is where my life took a turn in the road to a higher highway.
This highway took me to God.
He told me I wasn’t a criminal, but someone who deserved
God’s seal of approval.
He showed me love in the simpleness of a flower.
He showed me that I was loving, giving and selfless toward others in
my darkest hour.
I ask you, how does a man actually know when he is going to die?
You know through the glow in your eye, with the transformation of becoming pure and real, then hearing God’s voice telling you it’s okay to come home.

A Full Or Long Life?

Which would you choose? This question came to me this morning as I was watching the Today show they were talking about eating to have a longer life. This struck me because I have been reading 1000 Gifts by Ann Voskamp and she talks about living a full life. She contemplates dying and when we actually get to that point, are we going to feel full or empty? I really loved how she put it. Now when I see something about living a long life I wonder which would really be the best? In my own opinion I think living the full life long would be the ultimate life but if I had to choose I would want the full life. If life was empty, then a long empty life would just be miserable.

You may want to know what a full life looks like. As Jesus said, He came to give us life to the full. I have really meditated on that verse in the past and now Ann has revealed the key to unlocking the full life. It’s gratitude for everything you love. It’s not just feeling the gratitude but writing them down. Writing them down gives the moment a space, a sacred space that is a gift from God. This is what Ann talks about in her book. She says writing them down is the actual receiving of the gifts. She emphasizes to carry a little notebook with you which causes you to be aware of life happening and write them down as you go. I started this today and already have over 30 gifts! She says we hurry through life and miss the small stuff which is really the big stuff. We don’t pay attention to what really matters and to what is right in front of us. God is in every moment if we will just recognize Him there. When we do this we are living each moment to it’s fullest. We have given the moment a name, we have made the space in the moment holy. This is all God wants, communion with us and this is how we do it. God’s presence is the answer to all our longings, all our emptiness. Instead of filling the gaps with “things” we need to fill the gaps with thankfulness and recognize the gifts God is continually giving.

I know myself that I have lived some empty life. I can’t get it back but I can vow today to live a full life. I refuse to get to my dying day and wish I had lived more fully. This is the answer to not being afraid to die. When you know without a doubt you lived fully in God’s presence, you know without a doubt you will live in His full presence in eternity.

A Story To Make You Believe In God

maxresdefault

The Life of Pi is a movie about a boy’s journey to God. Now I know there are movie summaries out there stating things about the animals representing people and that’s exactly my point. They weren’t people! The movie is trying to get us to see the impossible! The investigators at the end make Pi tell a story that isn’t true, one that’s believable they say. This is the kind of synopsis it got in real life too! Just as the movie states, religion is darkness.

When Pi was a boy he stumbled into a church and saw Jesus on the cross. I think it was a priest who explained Jesus to Pi. His response was, what kind of love is that? Meaning who would love someone so much to die for them?

Then Pi is older and he finds himself in a bad storm on an ocean liner with his family. They all perish but Pi survives along with these animals in the life boat. It ends up just being Pi and the tiger though. While he is out at sea floating around in the ocean with this tiger, he learns something. Tending to the tiger gives him meaning and purpose. Shade becomes his greatest joy. He experienced God out there. God gave him provision with flying fish! He found an island that gave him some relief from the ocean but it was made known to him to get back out there if he wanted to be found.

When they hit land the tiger disappears into the jungle and is gone forever. Pi is just lying on the beach and watches the tiger disappear in the jungle. He feels sadness because him and the tiger had an experience together. They survived. He was connected to the tiger and now he was gone. All too soon though he is found by some people and taken to the hospital. I won’t go into detail about the movie itself, all the wonders and miracles because I don’t want to spoil it so I’m going to get to the main reason I’m writing about it.

What the Holy Spirit showed me through this movie is the stories in the Bible are viewed in the same way. They get tagged as being a metaphor for something when actually they are true and real! It seems unbelievable but it’s true! In the movie these investigators come to visit Pi in the hospital and they want the story of what happened to him. Pi tells them what actually happened, just as we see it in the film. Well, Pi’s version doesn’t line up with their reality. They wanted to hear THEIR TRUTH, not THE TRUTH. They thought Pi was crazy! Isn’t that how we are looked at, those who believe in the supernatural? They wanted a simple believable story without things they haven’t seen before. They asked Pi for the truth. Pi already told the truth but he then had to make up a story! So that they wouldn’t look like fools, they said! Pi had told the truth about the tiger, but they wanted a story THEY could believe, not the TRUTH!

This movie was a journey with God for this boy. He experienced God and no one would believe him. Has this happened to you? What happens to me is, I experience God and it seems like it doesn’t register with the other person. That’s because it has to be YOUR experience!

So it is with the Bible. The stories in the Bible seem “far fetched” and “out there” but that doesn’t make them false. God is bigger than us. His ways are higher than our ways as it says in the Bible! At the end of the movie we are asked to choose which story do we want to believe (prefer)?

I choose to believe the far-fetched story! It’s miraculous and amazing! The amazing story is the TRUTH because God is amazing, He is everything wonderful! This story is like the ones in the Bible, they are unbelievable and yet they are true because God does do the impossible! He is God! Believe it! Why believe the ordinary and what makes sense to our natural minds when you can live above this world in the extraordinary, where God is! I choose to live above, put my thoughts on things above and unseen to be able to experience God, on earth! Your Kingdom Come to earth as it is in heaven! We can experience it here if we just open our minds and hearts and allow ourselves to be with Him! He is all around us, waiting for US to acknowledge HIM.

Just because we can’t figure it out by our natural mind doesn’t mean it isn’t there or true. God is there whether you believe it or not. I choose to believe! I know He is real because like Pi, I have experienced Him for myself. If you question the Bible or God, start searching to experience God. Mere knowledge does not compare to being filled with His Spirit and knowing by experience that He is God. Ephesians 3:19, and [that you may come] to know [practically, through personal experience] the love of Christ which far surpasses [mere] knowledge [without experience], that you may be filled up [throughout your being] to all the fullness of God [so that you may have the richest experience of God’s presence in your lives, completely filled and flooded with God Himself].

In the Bible it says when you search for Him like lost treasure, He will be found by you. Remember a pure heart sees God!

A little side note: At the time I watched this movie I had a blog called My Kaleidoscope is Jesus. At the end of the movie during the credits there were kaleidoscope images. I took this as a sign and when I told my husband my interpretation of the movie I felt God’s presence and began to cry. God wants us to know He is REAL and the Bible is CREDIBLE!
