Jack Frost- The Lukewarm Christian

What I will be writing about comes from the movie The Rise of The Guardians. Jack Frost really stuck out to me cause I could relate to him. He is invisible, like he doesn’t exist. Jack is like the unborn spirit, not alive yet. I call him lukewarm because he has no side. He has to choose.

Jack asks why he is alive to the man on the moon (God).  He soon finds out the answer from one of the guardians, Santa. He tells Jack he is called to be a guardian, but Jack doesn’t want to be chosen. He questions that the man on the moon has said this. Santa tells Jack it’s destiny, can’t say no! Like many of us, Jack doesn’t think he has anything to offer to become a guardian. Santa explains to him that he has a center. A gift inside that is special.  Santa’s center is wonder, born with eyes to “see”. Jack goes on a quest to find his center.

In order to do this he needs memories. Memories of his childhood. Those memories help Jack remember what’s important. This is why God says to be childlike, not childish but childlike. The memories help him remember why he is here. Pitch, who is like the devil, steals the memories. This causes an uprising in Jack. He didn’t care about being a guardian until now, Pitch has stolen his memories! What has Satan stolen from you? Has it changed how you live? When you come to the realization that Satan has stolen from you, you will stand up and fight! We are indifferent until it effects us.

Jack finds out his center is fun. When he starts walking in this truth he becomes more real and visible. If we believe, we will see. Our eyes are opened to the supernatural realm. God isn’t invisible anymore and the more we believe the more visible He becomes.

In order for the guardians to keep their “jobs” the children have to believe. There ends up being only one boy who believes and they go to his house. Jack is communicating with the boy being invisible but soon the boy sees him because he believed. Jack is so happy that he isn’t invisible anymore! Once he found his center and believed in himself then others believed in him too. Jack said at the end, just because you can’t always see the sun, it doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

We all have a center, potential, something to give. We just have to figure out what it is, believe in ourselves and it will become a reality! Once we are born again and made alive in our spirit we will want to give. When people become lukewarm in their faith, it’s because they have forgotten who they are! Remember you are God’s child and as a child of God you have a mission while you are walking the earth! Stop being invisible and give your self away. Make your presence known for the glory of God! Do what He has called you to do. Our lives are meaningless without God and His direction.

Who Or What Is Your Idol?

This subject about having idols has been on my mind recently. Mostly because I don’t want to have any myself, but the Holy Spirit has pointed out some things to me. I was reading somewhere and I think it’s in Lisa Bevere’s new book coming out Without Rival, that an idol is anything you draw strength from other than God. Usually I heard idols described as whatever is in your heart before God. That definition isn’t as understandable as the first. When I read that definition it clicked for me because I actually had the thought recently that playing a game on face book gave me strength to then go and do my work. It serves as an “escape” for a little bit and you think your getting strength from that. So I realized that playing games is an idol.

I was drawn to a ride at Disney World recently called The Carousel of Progress. I rode it when I was small and always remembered it. I watched it on youtube and in doing that I was drawn to read about Walt Disney. I have heard that Disney is evil. The channel, the movies, the park. Walt Disney was abused as a child by his father and as an ‘”escape” he drew pictures. Then as he grew up his pictures came to life and then he made the theme parks. Snow White was the first motion picture. His “escapism” took over his life!

God never intended for us to “escape”life. The evil one, satan, is the one in control of this. For a long time I guess I have wanted an escape. First it was soap operas, magazines, T.V. shows, and now in this age GAMES! I feel church overlooks this addiction. Out of all the addictions this one is left out for some reason. I believe satan has us so deceived that the church doesn’t even see this as a problem. Games can be very addicting. I know because I have had the problem. They let you escape reality a little bit, they “work” your brain, they make you feel like you accomplished something when really you haven’t, they make you feel like somebody because you beat something or gained a level. All this is what the devil uses to distract us from God’s work that we should be doing in our life. Not only that but when you finally have to come back to reality, your out of sorts and you can’t remember what you really have to do.

Our strength comes from the Lord! Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Our “escape” should be in Christ! Our need is for Him anyway. When we start to feel overwhelmed Jesus said come to Me all who are weary and burdened, I will give you rest. Anxiety included! When anxious feelings come, begin thanking Jesus for all His graces and sing praises to God! We have to remember God’s grace past to receive God’s grace future! He wants us to boast in Him! Glorify Him! Tell people what He has done! I know from experience that talking about what God is doing in my life to my mom gives me strength. When you talk about the Lord, He is there. I read in my Bible about this. Malachi 3:16, Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name.

I believe we are so blinded that we forget God is present everywhere, every moment. He knows everything! This fight to remember God is with me, has been my focus lately. I was taking the trash out the other day and it came to me that I have to have confidence that He is walking beside me. Then I realized confidence is really faith. So I thought of the scripture about faith. Hebrews 11:1, Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Our faith should be in God. Idols are misplaced faith.

I have also learned that “seeing” God is with my heart. I think we resort to “things” to fill us up because they are tangible. Something we can experience with our five senses, but we do have a spiritual side that connects us with God if we can just access it. It says in the Bible we can only worship God with spirit and truth. With our spirit and His truth. We have to learn to replace these “things” with God’s presence. Being in His presence will give you more energy and strength than you know what to do with! How I do this is through singing my favorite songs to Him, reading the Bible, studying scripture, writing, loving my family, doing what I know God has for me to do. Not only will you get your work done but you will have peace! Nothing compares to having peace! Then your able to have a sound mind and make right decisions. This is God’s will for you.

Becoming Fit For God’s Army

When people talk about an army I tend to get scared because it means war and fighting. I avoid  confrontation at any cost! But, I want to talk about fear and share some insights I have learned from God. I will be using some scenes from Alice in Wonderland, the movie, to help illustrate what I am saying.

First, I want to address the fact that there is war and killing in the Bible. This used to confuse me before I was saved because I didn’t understand why God would allow it. Well, God hates sin! He will tolerate it for a time but if the people don’t repent and turn from it, God has to justify sin. He is holy and just. On the other hand He is love and mercy. God has given us free will to choose which side we will be on. The price of sin is death. It says in Romans 6:23, For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Our measure of goodness can never measure up to God’s goodness. That’s why He sent Jesus, to redeem us from our sin.  When Noah was instructed to build the ark it was because God found no one else except Noah who was faithful to God. He was the only one who acknowledged God. God allowed the flood to cleanse the earth. He cleansed the earth of evil! God chose Abraham for the same reason. Romans 4:18-22 tells us it was Abraham’s faith that counted him as righteous, which means right standing with God. God promised many nations would come from Abraham. People who would worship God and belong to Him. They would be His family. After this promise was fulfilled these people who belonged to God became known as the Israelites. They eventually backslid and came into hardship. They lost focus, which led to sin and put them into bondage. Our main focus needs to be God first. Hold Him high, honor Him, follow Him, trust Him, obey Him! He is looking for this type of person to be on His side.

Whether you accept it or not, we are in a spiritual warfare. There is a battle going on in the spiritual realm as we speak. The battle is about our salvation. The war is about whether we will take salvation and then go a step further and actually make Jesus our Lord [commander]. This war is going on inside each one of us, every day. Which side will we choose? Our day to day choices through the day are what determines which side we are on. Who ever we are yielding to is the one we are serving. God is in the process of building His kingdom and searching for soldiers to fill it.  One night I found myself in a spiritual battle in my sleep. When evil is face to face with you and you really feel what evil is, it can be very frightening. This is what happened to me, but I felt God saying to me,” Don’t give up!” I learned that in order to have courage , you have to face fear. If there is no fear then you can’t experience courage. When you stop and pray during a moment of fear and ask Jesus to be with you and know that love casts out fear, suddenly you know you aren’t alone. I like to think of it this way, we are in the trenches of life, right? God is the General on high. The Holy Spirit could be like our walkie talkie to communicate with Jesus. So, when I make contact with Him, I feel like my commander is right in the trenches with me.

Now my illustration using Alice in Wonderland. In the movie we see Alice oblivious to the fact that she is a champion. She learns from the scroll that a day is set for her to fight this creature. She doesn’t feel prepared and doesn’t even want to do it. She denies her destiny, she fights against it. Some of us may be doing the same spiritually. God is calling us but we keep resisting, making up excuses for why we can’t fight for Jesus.  We are champions on the inside, but we keep our destiny at bay because of fear. When Alice told the Madhatter that she wasn’t a slayer, he said she had lost her muchness, on the inside. He remembered her as being full of life, nothing was impossible, when she was a child. Could this be why the Bible says to have childlike faith? A child’s perspective is different than an adult. See, when Alice was a child, she could do anything, but now that she is older, she is questioning what really is possible. We have to get our muchness back!  Maybe not in the way we hoped but in a different way, God’s way. Sometimes difficulties have to be experienced in order to face fears. If we can get through the small stuff, then eventually we will be able to slay dragons as well. You have to believe the impossible before it can happen. That’s faith. Alice remembered something before slaying the creature. Her father told her to think of six impossible things before breakfast. She thought of six impossible things while facing the giant creature. They were things she THOUGHT were impossible but experienced them and knew they were real. So, she knew if those things were possible then it was possible for her to slay the creature.

Just like Alice, we are up against a creature named Satan. Are we going to hide in the foxhole, or will we take a stand and fight for Jesus! It is the destiny of every christian to be in God’s army. We are on the battlefield and God calls us to be His champions. Just like the scroll foretold of Alice, God has already called us. Will we keep resisting and not fulfilling our destiny? Or will we allow God to work inside of us and regain our muchness! Don’t settle for just making it in to heaven, become a soldier for Jesus and march victoriously into the kingdom of heaven knowing you gave it your all and you fought the good fight of faith!
